A specialised, slow release biological blend for breaking down grease and other organic matter typically associated with wet well pumping stations with a fortified enzyme system and micronutrients.
THE PROBLEM:
Wet well pumping stations are prone to getting clogged with FOGs and if float switches get jammed motor burnouts and the risk of foul water floods can be very expensive indeed.
Wet wells are the holding sump for gravity-flow sewer systems. As sewage enters the wet well and the water level rises, pumps are engaged to pump out the sewage to a forced main, or the sewage is lifted to a higher grade to continue the gravity flow to the outlet point.
Radicle’s biological drain treatment reduces solids, emptying, desludging, malodours and keep wet wells free-flowing to reduce the risk of jammed float switches and pump burnouts. This product contains not only specially-selected bacterial spores but also extracellular enzymes for immediate action to prevent and solve clogged pipes.

How It Works
Our drain management service uses a blend of naturally-occurring, non-GMO bacteria which produce enzymes (biological catalysts) that break down fats, oils and greases. These enzymes actually break down FOGs into their constituent parts (unlike a detergent that just helps move FOGs elsewhere) and like all catalysts the enzymes are not ‘used up’ in the process. This is how bacteria feed – they produce enzymes to break down waste into its constituent molecules – molecules small enough for them to absorb across their cell membrane.
Our bacteria are more effective than conventional products because they form a biofilm which produces a renewable supply of highly active enzymes for fat and grease degradation. The biofilm adheres to the drainage system walls and is highly resistant to cleaning chemicals and so provides long-lasting protection.
How It’s Dosed
For wet wells the friendly, FOG-busting bugs are delivered in two ways: a precise amount of friendly bacteria in a liquid medium are dosed nightly via an automatic pump plus a solid block of bugs is suspended in the wet well. Each time the water level rises above the block a quantity of bacteria are released. These form a biofilm on the surfaces of the well that produce the enzymes that digest FOGs.
With so many buidings across our 15-acre estate we’ve managed to save well over 100 tons of water a week – and over 7 tons of CO2 off our carbon footprint. Sustainability is really important to us and to our community of 300+ businesses here at Digbeth – the fact we’re saving money too is a real bonus.
This is so simple to implement and it really works. Our loos are so much more pleasant and the odours have gone. This is a historic building and we were struggling with that. We’ve been working really hard to reduce our environmental impact this year; this one change is saving us literally tons of water, CO2 – and money.
We went waterless with the Radicle system and within a week we were getting positive comments from the team about how the urinal smells had disappeared. The loos are visibly cleaner, far more pleasant – and we’re saving a lot of money on water. It’s also reducing our carbon footprint – which as a business is very important to us.
